Andy Murray, David Ferrer improve world tennis rankings
LONDON, April 1 () -- Andy Murray, David Ferrer and Richard Gasquet all improved their standing in the men's world tennis rankings, which were updated Monday.Murray defeated Ferrer in Sunday's final of the Masters-level Sony Open in Miami after beating Gasquet in the semifinals.Those results allowed Murray to pass Roger Federer for the world No. 2 ranking while Ferrer passed Rafael Nadal for the fourth spot and Gasquet moved ahead of Janko Tipsarevic for ninth.Federer, Nadal and Tipsarevic all dropped one spot in the rankings this week. It is the first time since Nov. 10, 2003, that both Federer and Nadal are outside the Top 2.Novak Djokovic is still No. 1 with a point total of 12,370 while Murray is at 8,750 and Federer is third, 80 points behind Murray. Ferrer has 7,050 points and Nadal has 6,385 for fifth.Tomas Berdych remained sixth with 5,145 points followed by No. 7 Juan Martin del Potro (4,705) with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (3,660) in eighth. Gasquet has 3,230 points and Tipsarevic 3,000.The ATP has no tournaments scheduled this week to make time for the Davis Cup quarterfinals, which include a series in Boise, Idaho, pitting the Djokovic-led Serbian team against the United States. Also, the defending champion Czech Republic plays at Kazakhstan, Italy goes against Canada in British Columbia and France travels to Buenos Aires to meet the Argentines.
