APOctober isn't quite over yet, but the NFL has decided to go ahead and hand out the NFC offensive player of the month award anyway. The recipient is a guy who had a month's worth of yardage in one game last Sunday. Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson's monster day against the Cowboys was one of the most productive days a receiver has had in the history of the game and that helped make him the choice for the monthly honor even though he missed one of Detroit's four games during the month.Johnson had 14 catches for 329 yards and a touchdown against Dallas, pushing his totals for the month to 26 catches for 509 yards and three touchdowns. Randall Liu of the NFL passes along that Johnson's 169.7 yards per game are the highest of any month, with a minimum of three games, in NFL history and that Johnson is the first wide receiver to win the NFC monthly award multiple times.Johnson won't get a chance to get back on the field until Week 10 because the Lions are on a bye this week, but October's performance has made it clear that a missed week here or there isn't enough to keep him from finding his way to the top of the heap.
